cover + interior design + production
This is the 20th anniversary edition of this literary anthology, which is published every other year. The cover has always featured images of plane trees (sycamore), an emblematic tree for the city of Geneva. Offshoots takes its name from the new growth that sprouts each spring from the heavily-pruned branches. The silhouette image for this edition was rendered from a photograph taken by Karen McDermott. The title text is raised off the surface of the paper and has had no ink applied — a blind deboss. The paper was chosen for its hand-wrought quality. Because the presence of colored flecks and bits (shives) is irregular, no two sheets are alike. So every book cover is a bit unique.

“The warm and supple feeling of the cover, which I find superb, encourages the reader to delve into the text with a natural curiosity.” Jo Ann Hansen Rasch, Editor-in-chief, Offshoots 10
